Kangana Ranaut made her feature film debut with Gangster (2006), for which she earned the Filmfare Award for Best Female Actress. Subsequent films she has appeared in include Life in a Metro, Woh Lamhe, Fashion as well as Once Upon a Time in Mumbai and Raaz: The Mystery Continues; her comedic role in Tanu Weds Manu was met well at Indian box offices.
Kangana Ranaut first came to fame alongside Hrithik Roshan in Krish 3, India’s most commercially successful film of 2013, then went on to win two National Film Awards consecutively for her roles as an innocent lady in Queen and an opposite twin character in Tanu Weds Manu Returns respectively. Additionally, she created her clothing lines with Vero Moda brand Vero Moda while opening Manikarnika Films production firm on January 15, 2020 in Pali Hills Mumbai.

Ranaut made her acting debut in the romance mystery Gangster (2006) and won multiple awards including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Performance. Since then she has featured as a sneaky socialite in Metro (2007) and an actress in Woh Lamhe (2006); for both performances Ranaut received Stardust Awards for Outstanding Performance. After portraying an intoxicated supermodel in Fashion (2008) which earned her National Film Award nominations and later went on to star in several more films before making her Tamil cinematic debut with Dhaam Dhoom in 2008 in which she played a village girl role.
Raaz: The Mystery Continues was followed by Raaz: Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Tanu Weds Manu (2011), and Double Dhamaal (2012); for which she received nominations for Screen Award Best Actress Female and Zee Cine Best Actress – Female respectively in 2011. Subsequently she appeared in several box office failures that did nothing for her career development; though some may argue they were forced to participate due to lack of suitable parts available to them.
Ranaut made her mark as an actress when she played Kaya, a humanoid mutant in Krrish 3, one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing science-fiction blockbusters of all time and received a nomination for the IIFA Best Lead Actress Award. Queen (2014) saw Rani co-writing dialogue with Anvita Dutt Guptan for which she also co-wrote dialogue herself to critical acclaim; Rani received awards such as the National Film Award and Filmfare Award Best Actress Award. Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) became India’s first film with two female leads to gross over 1 billion rupees (US$13 million).
Ranaut received India’s fourth-highest civilian honor – the Padma Shri – from the government in 2020. At the 67th National Film Awards she won three Best Actress awards – three in 2019 period drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and one more for 2020 sports drama Panga – totalling four. Ranaut won one National Film Award under this category alone!
